He added’ “The eyes of the world will be on Qatar in exactly 47 days, as we welcome football fans from all around the globe to enjoy the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Dr. Al Subaie said that the goal of the organisation is to “provide an excellent event in what will prove to be an exceptional worldwide destination for sports and entertainment.” This will be accomplished via the united efforts of all stakeholders.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Rail, more than 5,000 people have been recruited to assist in the delivery of the event. Additionally, 1,800 dedicated staff members have been trained to manage crowds outside of the stations, which he said will play an important role in the crowd management strategy for the rail network.
A minute-by-minute simulation model for ridership at each station is one of the additional measures taken in addition to the installation of line barriers at each of the 37 stations, the implementation of advanced monitoring systems for the management of incidents and emergencies, and the planning of several other potential scenarios.
During the course of the event, Professor Stefan Voss, Director of Information Systems at the University of Hamburg and Dean of The Hamburg Business School, served as a moderator for a panel discussion that included a number of specialists from organisations representing stakeholder groups.
On the other hand, the Director General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SCDL), H. E. Yasir Jamal, said that: “In Qatar, we enjoy challenges and we have embraced many of them in the past years.”
One of them is the delivery of the metro network in a very short amount of time, and we are quite fortunate to have it up and operating by 2019. We conducted tests of the network with Qatar Rail the year before, and we smashed records at many of the events, including one at the Lusail Stadium, where Qatar Rail was able to safely and securely handle up to 47,000 spectators without any difficulties.
The exceptional performance level in those tests is in part the result of training that has been completed by more than 4,000 employees for almost 100,000 hours to date. According to Bernard Tabary, CEO of Keolis Group International, these employees have been trained to handle a wide variety of scenarios and interactions with a wide variety of passengers.
“We believe that the engagement of our personnel with passengers is one that will ideally leave them with a great experience throughout the event,” he added. “We feel that this interaction will hopefully leave them with a nice experience.”
Concerning the safety of spectators and attendees during the tournament, Lieutenant Colonel Salem Al Naimi, Director of the Transportation Security Department at the Ministry of the Interior, has stated that all operational and security-related plans have been put into place in an integrated manner. These plans have been designed to address all potential challenges that may arise in the near future, including situations involving crowd management.
