Open Stadiums sent a letter to the President of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, stating that the Iranian authorities have not changed their policy and continue to deny female supporters entrance to sporting events. A women’s rights organisation in Iran deemed the Iranian Football Association to be a “direct danger” to the safety of female supporters in the country.
“The Iranian Armed Forces are not only complicit in the atrocities that are committed by the government. It is a direct danger to the security of female supporters in Iran and wherever our national team plays in the globe. The letter said that football ought to be a secure environment for all of us.
Following this, the women’s rights organisation advocated for the elimination of Iran from the next FIFA World Cup, which is scheduled to begin in the month of November.
“Because of this, as Iranian football fans, we have to express our utmost worry regarding Iran’s participation in the 2017 FIFA World Cup. It is with an exceedingly sad heart that we do so.
