Haldwani, a picturesque city nestled in the lap of the Himalayas in Uttarakhand, is currently grappling with a tumultuous situation following the demolition of an allegedly illegal madrasa and mosque on Thursday evening. Reports indicate that the incident has resulted in the loss of four lives and left nearly 250 individuals injured amidst the ensuing violence.
The unrest erupted on Thursday evening subsequent to the demolition of the madrasa and mosque, prompting the district administration to impose a city-wide curfew in Haldwani. Additionally, authorities have issued orders for shoot-on-sight against rioters, and internet services have been suspended in the area.
According to court orders aimed at removing the unlawful structures, tensions escalated when a Muslim mob turned violent and resorted to stone-pelting. A police station was set ablaze during the chaos, with 20 police personnel sustaining serious injuries, one narrowly escaping being burnt alive.
